Jaume Plensa’s alabaster monoliths at Yorkshire Sculpture Park are eerie and knowing. Despite having been carved into the stone, the lighting makes each child-like face appear projected onto the chunk of luminous rock.

When I was in this still and semi-dark room, a group behind me were discussing the various translations of The Iliad. It was a highly suitable conversation in the presence of these sombre still, stone child witnesses.
